OCTRU Trial Statistician (128806)

Grade 6: £27,629 to £32,958 p.a.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Statistician to join the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU) led by Professors Doug Altman and Sallie Lamb and the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM) led by Professor Sallie Lamb at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, University of Oxford. OCTRU provides input into the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of both early and later phase clinical trials in surgery, musculoskeletal sciences, respiratory, gastroenterology, critical care and oncology.

As a Trial Statistician, you will contribute to the design, analysis and presentation of results of collaborative clinical research projects under the supervision of a senior statistician. This will involve interacting directly with researchers, helping to ensure the completion and delivery of projects within deadlines, and contributing to maintaining the projects’ scientific quality and integrity. You will also undertake methodological research coordinated within the unit and promote your own continuing professional development.

You will have a postgraduate degree in Statistics, a substantial part of which relates to medical statistics, or equivalent experience. Resourceful and self-motivating, you must be familiar with key aspects of study design and analysis, and aware of the latest statistical techniques. Good communication skills, the ability to grasp clinical research problems and identify hypotheses to be tested, and good project management skills are essential. Presentation skills including familiarity with presentation software (preferably MS PowerPoint) and programming skills (preferably a statistical language) would be desirable.

This is a full time fixed-term post for 2 years.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday, 15 June 2017. You will be required to submit a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
