Hi Billie,

This brings to mind a paper by Fiona Coffey in the NZ College of Midwives Journal. It's a thematic analysis of the literature and doesn't answer your question exactly but may be of use. The pdf is available at this link: https://www.midwife.org.nz/resources-events/nzcom-journal/issue-51/learning-by-simulation/

Subject: Clinical simulation in midwifery evidence base

Dear colleagues

In Wales, UK we are currently engaged in discussions regarding the appropriate proportion of clinical hours that undergraduate midwifery students can/should spend in simulated learning situations. As it becomes increasingly difficult for students to gain 'real life' hands on experience, the use of clinical simulation labs is growing. But is there an ideal proportion of simulation hours to real life experience?  There are lots of opinions about this! But does anyone know of any research evidence?

Many thanks
Billie
