Dear All

I have circulated before, but shall circulate again, information about a film festival that also involves a week's worth of masterclasses with leading film practitioners in Portugal in the summer.

I have taken groups for several years now, as have colleagues from Greenwich, Middlesex, Bournemouth and other places (from what I can recall). And it is good value for money, an excellent networking opportunity for emerging/would-be filmmakers and lots of fun - in a pleasant location where food and drink are relatively cheap.

So below is a message from one of the organisers should it be of interest, particularly to those colleagues who work at institutions that offer production pathways.

With best wishes

William

Dear colleagues,
My name is Jonna Vestin and I am contacting you on behalf of FEST - New Directors | New Films Festival to tell you more about the festival and its educational forum, Training Ground. We would like to propose a partnership in order to facilitate your students' access to the event.
Let me first give you a brief explanation about what we do. In addition to the various competitive and non competitive sections showcasing emerging filmmakers from all around the world, the festival includes a series of connected events such as a Pitching Forum, the Filmmakers Corner or NEXXT- screenings dedicated to showcasing the films produced in partner schools.
An important part is Training Ground, consisting of a full week of master classes, lectures, workshops, and debates headed by key figures in the international film industry. The forum provides valuable information and know-how, complementing academic learning. The participants have the opportunity to connect directly with the guests for the entire duration of the festival; we make it a mission to create the space and time to facilitate these meetings and encourage networking to the fullest.
The prices for the forum are designed with the aim of allowing widespread international participation. The standard cost of a Training Ground pass (giving access to the master classes) is 69,99 euros. There are various other packages, also including accommodation, which you can review on our webpage.
In 2017 the festival reaches its 13th edition and will take place between the 19th and 26th of June in Espinho, Portugal. Film submissions close on February 28. The call for the FEST Pitching Forum is running until March 31th and is open for shorts, features, documentaries and TV series.
As for our speakers at this upcoming edition of Training Ground, the final list is still in the working, but we've already confirmed the presence of:
* Eddy Joseph - Sound editor on "Casino Royale" and "Pink Floyd The Wall", among others;
* Scandar Copti - Camera d'Or winner, who will talk about his unconventional methods of directing actors;
* Gareth Wiley - Golden Globe nominated producer of "Match Point" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"; * Brian Ian Muir - respected sculptor and artist in the film industry, known to have brought to life Darth Vader’s mask etc.
We would like to propose a partnership concerning Training Ground. In exchange for you promoting the event, we offer your students and staff:
* Free film submission to the film festival (submission close Feb 28th);
* discounts on the Training Ground passes (including both access to the events & accommodation)
* 2 films in the NEXXT, our official academic competition;
* the promotion of your institution as an official partner of FEST Training Ground through a variety of communication means;
* the possibility to endorse your school through promotional material during FEST;
* a 2 hours master class delivered to your students on the topic “The festival circuit. Increasing chances of festival selection”;
* 50 % discount on the Pitching Forum.
I will leave you with a short video presentation of Training Ground which you can access here. If this sounds interesting, I’d be glad to give you more details and discuss the specifics of the partnerships via email, phone or Skype, according to your availability. Looking forward to your reply.
Best regards, Jonna Vestin - Head of Partnership Liaisons
