Dear Alexandra,

We have recently started providing disposable earplugs for our students.  We have had no problems or issues raised by students and they quite popular.

We have a small cohort of students (approx 500 fte students per annum) and a small library but I would estimate an average of 15 sets per week are taken.  (We also issue headphones to students).

I hope that helps.

Kind regards

Jackie

Subject: Use of disposable ear-plugs

Hello,

Do any of your institutions have experience of providing disposable ear plugs for your customers during times when high levels of noise might be expected, eg, during building works or if your library is in close proximity to your Students Union (or other similar venue) during events etc?

If you do offer earplugs can you provide any feedback on how they are used or any issues that have been raised?  I’m particularly interested to learn whether any health & safety concerns have been raised, and whether you think providing them is useful, how many you typically hand out etc.

Also, if they’ve been requested but you’ve decided against providing them I’d be equally interested to have your insights.

Many thanks, Alex Talbot
