Nordia Geographical Publications Yearbook 2017

Theme issue: Everyday security and inequality in internationalizing Finland

Editors: Tiina Lankila & Eeva-Kaisa Prokkola

The Geographical Society of Northern Finland and the Geography Research Unit at the University of Oulu are inviting contributors to the Nordia Geographical Publications Series 23rd Yearbook, which will be published in late 2017.

This year’s Yearbook will focus on the theme of everyday security and inequality which are seen as the focal questions of the internationalizing Finnish society. Human security means the protection of human lives from pervasive threats and situations and the enhancement of human freedoms. Yet insecurities are geographical and contextual in nature, thus there is a need for contextualized responses for improving everyday security. By taking this definition as a starting point, the Yearbook especially welcomes papers discussing:
- The interwoven, multi-sectoral nature of security (economic, political, environmental, health, community, territorial and other types of security).
- Everyday security of individuals, their protection, well-being and empowerment.
- Inequality, insecurity and the resilience of Finnish society
- The interwoven nature of international and domestic human security

We welcome all approaches and perspectives, representing both basic and applied research. Also manuscripts outside this year’s theme are welcomed and may be published under the section Research articles.

The theme issue publishes original research articles and reviews (ca 3000–6000 words), short papers (ca 2000 words) and extended abstracts (ca 1000–1500 words), reviewed by two anonymous referees before publishing. The option of extended abstract is targeted especially for the students. The Yearbook will be published openly in the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV) Open Journal System. Nordia Geographical Publications can be found in Scopus and it is in the Finnish Publication Forum classification level 1.

The initial title and abstract deadline is in 2 June 2017 and the final deadline for manuscript submission is in 11 August 2017. The CfP can be downloaded from a shortened URL
