Dear colleagues (apologies for cross posting),

New webinar
The Language of Race and Pandering to White Fragility: White Institutional Resistance in the Academy

ECU's Race Equality Charter team<http://www.ecu.ac.uk/equality-charters/race-equality-charter/> are pleased to announce the third webinar in our 2017 series on race in higher education, to be delivered by Richard Tavernier, an academic in social science at University of Leeds.

The webinar is based on Richard's research: The Language of Race and Pandering to White Fragility: White Institutional Resistance in the Academy. This research focuses on the failure of institutions (particularly Higher Education) in engaging with the language of Race. For staff and students who are racialized as 'non-white,' how does 'white institutional resistance' impact on the experiences within the academy? Can institutions be truly international whilst denying Race, racism and white privilege?

Click here<http://www.ecu.ac.uk/events/the-language-of-race-and-pandering-to-white-fragility-white-institutional-resistance-in-the-academy/> for more information and to sign up.

Richard Tavernier is Director of BA Social Science (Foundation Year) and Widening Participation Officer at the University of Leeds, working with non-traditional students returning to Higher Education and coordinating academic outreach engagement with schools and colleges. He is also a trustee for the Racial Justice Network. Richard is developing training for Trainee Educators, Diversity and Inclusion practitioners and professionals in the Education sector (including Higher Education) around Race Awareness in relation to Race, Racism and White Privilege.

Kind regards,
Azaria
