Hi All

Warwick is considering signing up to the Disability Confident Scheme, but I want to investigate some of the criteria in a little more detail, so would really appreciate it if you could all provide some feedback on your experiences.  I am particularly interested in how you cope with the criteria to offer an interview for all disabled candidates that meet the minimum criteria for the job?  Do you find that this has increased applications from people with disabilities?  We are nervous that because we get a lot of applications for most of our roles, that the interview stage would become unmanageable and unfair to offer candidates who only meet the minimum criteria, when there are candidates that meet all or most of the criteria, and more likely to be offered the post.

Presumably, like us, the majority of you do not pass on the personal monitoring information of applicants to the recruiting department, so that those shortlisting are unaware of protected characteristics that might have been disclosed at application stage.  How do you accommodate this with the criteria of offering interviews to those disclosing disabilities?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes and have a nice weekend – the sun is supposed to be shining!

Sandra

Hi Mona and everyone

I can confirm that we have indeed also been certified as a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) as it comes out of our previous Two Ticks accreditation.

This year, we will need to evidence our fulfilling the new criteria (using the new guidance) via electronic form on the Gov.uk website.

Regards,

Valerie

Subject: Universities signed up to 'disability confident' scheme

Dear colleagues

A while ago I messaged to ask who was signed up to the ‘disability confident’ scheme (used to be ‘two ticks’ scheme) and here is the list of those who replied:

Using the scheme:

University of East London

University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth

Lancaster University

University of Brighton

University of Chester

Buckinghamshire new university

Loughborough University

I think from their replies Liverpool and Birmingham are also signed up.

Withdrawn from the scheme:

Derby (didn’t think it works)

I hope that helps and many thanks to those of you who responded

Best

Kathy
