Funny that the government bowed to the whim of the minority of the electorate that voted for Brexit, but ignored the overwhelming majority that wanted to name something Boaty McBoatface.

They set a precedent by attaching the name to a lesser vessel. Why not do the same and put the Brexit label on something less harmful?

I may actually cry tomorrow.

But hey! There's a submarine with a silly name! Yay!

People seem to have accepted that BREXIT at any cost is going to happen regardless – probably because the Govt does not have a functioning opposition – so there’s no point even paying attention to the news anymore because we’re all doooooomed.

Or maybe that’s how I just feel this week.

Maybe it’s that in the grand scheme of things, it’s climate change and melting ice caps that are really the most dangerous risk to us all, over and above Brexit?

Or perhaps people just want to cheer themselves up and think about nice things….

Today is likely to see the way cleared for the Government to be free to trigger Article 50 so that the UK can begin its journey to leave the European Union. The vote in the Commons today is a momentous step in our democracy, whichever way you voted in last year’s referendum.

So what do we make of the news, which I heard on this morning’s BBC Radio 4 Today programme, that it is not Brexit which is trending today on twitter, but the news that Boaty McBoatface is set to leave for Antarctica this week on its first science expedition?

Discuss!
