We are looking for a dynamic individual to lead the further development of health economics within the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health (the Centre). This Professorial post is based in the UKCRC registered and NIHR funded Pragmatic Clinical Trials Unit within the Centre. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing and developing health economics in the PCTU, and in the prestigious Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research.  You would supervise a growing team of health economists (three full time posts currently but expected to increase to four posts over the coming year).  Wider development of health economics within the medical school is also possible.

The Pragmatic Clinical Trials Unit leads and supports clinical trials in which the primary question of interest relates to intervention effectiveness: whether an intervention works under real-life conditions. It also leads and supports pilot studies for these trials. The unit has a very strong statistical section, currently numbering 14 statisticians and additionally conducts methodological research particularly related to cluster randomised trials and complex interventions. http://blizard.qmul.ac.uk/research-groups/225-pragmatic-clinical-trials-unit.html

The Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research is a national network of the UK’s leading asthma research groups across 16 HEIshttp://www.aukcar.ac.uk  

Based in Whitechapel in the heart of London’s east end, the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health brings together some of the UK’s leading researchers, practitioners and educators in a vibrant, multidisciplinary group, including those with backgrounds in general practice, biostatistics, medical sociology, immunology, genetics, public health, nursing, bioethics and psychology with the aim of delivering world-leading research and education to inform and support local, national and global primary care and public health. The post is full time and permanent. Salary will be by negotiation within the Professorial range.  Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest free season ticket loan.
