Invitation to GISRUK 2017 – Registration Now Open – Early Bird Discount Available until 18th March 2017

 

GISRUK 2017 registration is now open and there is only two weeks left to receive the early bird discount (18th March 2017).

 

This year has attracted a high level of paper/ poster submissions from the UK and overseas.  There will be three different research tracks covering a variety of different themes in Geographical Information Science and also a commercial track on the morning of 21st April 2017.

 

Who are the keynote speakers?

Prof. Robert Barr OBE – A social and urban geographer with a special interest in geographic information and data science. He worked at The University of Manchester for thirty years where he established the Manchester Regional Research Laboratory which was later spun out as Manchester Geomatics.

Prof. Andrew Hudson-Smith – Director and Head of Department of the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at The Bartlett, University College London. Andy holds a Chair in Digital Urban Systems and is Editor-in-Chief of both the Future Internet and Urban Planning Journals.

Nick Crane – An author and broadcaster whose books and TV films explore geographical themes. In recent years Nick has become best known for presenting the BBC2 TV series Coast, Map Man, Great British Journeys, Nicholas Crane’s Britannia and Town.

Details about the social event can be viewed at: http://manchester.gisruk.org/events.php In summary there will be two social events providing an excellent opportunity for networking:

19th April 2017 - Drinks reception at Manchester Museum beneath ‘Stan’ the T.rex

20th April 2017 – Conference dinner at The Monastery a Grade II* listed building, an Edward Pugin architectural masterpiece. This social event is not to be missed and will include an exhibition of historic maps of the area from The University of Manchester Map Collection.

 

How do I book accommodation for the event?

Is there any pre-conference workshops?

Yes, on 18th and 19th April 2017. The below workshops are free of charge to registered GISRUK 2017 attendees (if you are not registered for GISRUK 2017 a small fee is levied to cover refreshments before the event).

 

1)      Early Career Researchers workshop (Track A) – targeted at MSc, PhD and post-docs

3)      In addition the GISRUK 2017 organising committee are pleased to announce that the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC) will be running a workshop on 19th April 2017 which is free to attend for all interested in using CDRC.
