The School of Architecture at the University of East London invites application for our MRes in Architecture, 'Reading the neoliberal city'. While sited in the school of architecture we welcome applicants form a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines.

The multi-disciplinary course analyses the impact of capitalist neoliberalism on development. It examines neoliberal policies over the last 30 years and their effects on subjectivity, urban layout, property markets, architectural form and social justice.

The course is comprised of four modules: Reading the Neoliberal City; Psychogeography and Situationism; Ethical Development and the Digital City. Topics for study include the housing crisis, the privatisation of place and space, the financialisation and polarisation of cities and the consequences for citizens in terms of trust and fear.

The Programme Leader is Anna Minton, Reader in Architecture and author of 'Ground Control' and her forthcoming book on the housing crisis, 'Big Capital: Who is London for?'. She is joined by Debra Benita Shaw, Reader in Cultural Theory in the School of Arts & Digital Industries and author of Posthuman Urbanism: Mapping Bodies in Contemporary City Space (forthcoming).
