£27,769 per annum (pro-rata for the length of the contract and hours agreed)
Fixed-term position for 33 weeks (if part-time hours are agreed, the contract length will be extended accordingly)

The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. The Gallery attracts over 2 million visits a year and is among London's most popular attractions, it reaches and engages these, and further UK and global audiences, with its extensive display, exhibition, research, learning, outreach, publishing, digital and national programmes.

A unique opportunity has arisen within the National Portrait Gallery for a Project Archivist to catalogue and promote archives associated with Lucian Freud (1922-2011) and members of his family. When catalogued these archives will provide an invaluable insight into the development of Freud's artistic practice and aspects of his early family life.

The successful candidate will possess a degree and a recognised Post-Graduate qualification in Archives Administration as well as demonstrable relevant experience in cataloguing archive collections and German language proficiency. We are also looking for a candidate who is methodical, accurate and careful and possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
