Temporary Data Ingest Officer (Metadata Enhancement), UK Data Archive

Remuneration/ Pay rate: £25,298 per annum pro rata (Grade 6)

We are seeking an individual to join our team for a period of 6 months. The post holder will be responsible for enhancement of survey and scales metadata for our most popular longitudinal studies Understanding Society, the National Child Development Study, the 1970 British Cohort Study and the Millennium Cohort Study to the highest standard, in order to publish the metadata into the CLOSER Discovery portal and publish unique references for standard scales.

This post requires prior experience with quantitative social science data, together with experience in creating variable level metadata. Experience with longitudinal surveys is welcomed. The successful candidate will be required to collaborate with the CLOSER team at the Centre for Longitudinal Studies (including on-site visits), receive training in the use of the CLOSER Archivist tool and relevant basic security clearance.

The UK Data Archive is ISO 27001, certified for Information Security Management and candidateswill need to be able to fulfil the staff vetting procedure for Government contracts.

Principal duties:
To enhance existing question and variable level metadata for four key longitudinal studies to DDI-Lifecycle metadata using the CLOSER Archivist tool, for data collected via questionnaires and electronic instruments.
To map questions to standard scales and create standard scales metadata records for publication.
To collaborate with the CLOSER metadata team at the Centre for Longitudinal Studies, London and deliver enhanced metadata for publication into CLOSER Discovery.

Skills/Experience:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent (BA, BSc)
A background in the social sciences
Experience of surveys and quantitative data
Experience of MS Office Professional
Awareness of the principles of data security
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
An organised and methodical approach to work, with strong attention to detail
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Time management and prioritisation skills to enable deadlines to be met
