Some statistical thoughts on the effectiveness of medical care (prompted
by visiting some very sick friends – my apologies to anyone who finds these
thoughts distasteful)

I understand that £30,000 per QALY is a threshold often adopted by NIHCE in
determining cost-effective care.

Does anyone know how much the average QALY costs for people of different
ages? I expect it may be £1 million or so for very elderly people, at
least in some cases.
