Hello Chloe and welcome to the funny farm

It would be interesting to hear the views of someone in recruitment, if that is the right term, on the value of a ‘masters’ degree in communications when it comes to getting a job. I’m thinking of the sort of MSc they do at Imperial rather than a vocational bachelor degree.

None of those degrees existed when I got into this caper, but I have since seen quite a few excellent graduates from the masters courses. Do they look good on the CVs that waft under your nose?

I ask partly because I was looking at one course earlier today and its talk of career opportunities was on the vague side. No mention of where graduates had ended up after the course.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] JOBS IN SCIENCE PUBLISHING - Are you looking for your next role in scientific publishing?

Hi list members,

I’ve been posting on this mailing list for some time now and I wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Chloe and I’m a consultant at Inspired Selection. We are a recruitment agency servicing the publishing industry and I specialise in Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishing. I work with global scientific publishers, small niche journal publishers, scientific societies and membership bodies, charitable organisations and Medical Communications agencies.

If you’re looking for a new job in STM publishing, or want to keep an eye on vacancies as they come up, I’d love to hear from you. You can send your CV to [log in to unmask] and I will be in touch.

A bit about me:

I meet candidates who are looking for their next role in STM publishing every day. I try to understand exactly what it is they’re looking for and their most valuable skills, and introduce them to my clients accordingly. I am in regular contact with lots of my clients and have a really good understanding of what they’re looking for so that I’m able to match candidates and organisations to fit both of their needs.

I cover a wide variety of roles, including editorial, production, sales, marketing, design and operations. Increasingly, however, I am seeing new hybrid roles cropping up as exciting changes such as Open-Access change the landscape of STM publishing.

Please do get in touch! You can also follow me on twitter at @chloe_rhys or connect with me at https://uk.linkedin.com/in/chloerhys to keep an eye on the new jobs I’m working on.

Kind regards,

Chloe
