This talk, delivered by the Head of Marketing at the BBC and jointly hosted by the Media Convergence Research Centre and the Bath Business School, surveys the changing landscape of television marketing in the twenty-first century. Outlining and exploring the BBC’s current approaches towards digital innovation, creative excellence, brand management and marketing strategy across multiple platforms, the talk will draw on a range of popular online and offline marketing campaigns for contemporary BBC programmes such as SherlockDoctor WhoLutherEastEndersPeaky Blinders and The Fall.

Hugh Davies is Head of Marketing, Drama & Film, at BBC. His responsibilities include marketing strategy, brand management and campaign strategy for all major BBC dramas, leading the marketing of BBC Films, developing high-profile global “event” marketing for the BBC’s flagship programmes such as Doctor Who and Sherlock, digital innovation and creative excellence across all platforms, and he was previously responsible for setting up the BBC One social media team, its feeds and protocols.
