We are very pleased to announce that Prof Emma Renold (Cardiff) will join Prof Jessica Ringrose (UCL) as our second keynote speaker at this year's Affect and Social Media 3.00. Hosted by UEL on 25th May 2017.
Jessica Ringrose (Professor of Sociology of Gender and Education at the University College London Institute of Education) works at the intersections of girlhood studies, media studies, sociology of education and critical psychology and draws on feminist poststructural, psychosocial and Deleuzo-Guattarian approaches to understanding subjectivity, affect and social transformation.
Jessica is the author of Postfeminist Education? Girls and the sexual politics of schooling (2013, Routledge) which offers new tools for thinking about and researching girls' subjectivity, agency and 'resistances' to the competitive heterosexual matrix.
Other work includes Children, Sexuality and Sexualisation (Palsgrave, 2015, edited with Emma Renold and Danielle Egan) and Deleuze and Research Methodologies (with Rebecca Coleman, Edinburgh University Press).
Emma Renold (Professor of Childhood Studies at the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University, Wales) works with queer and feminist post/constructionist theories, her research explores young gendered and sexual subjectivities across diverse
institutional sites and public spaces.
Emma is the author of Girls, Boys and Junior Sexualities (2005, Routledge), the co-founder of youngsexualities.org, a former co-editor of the journal Gender and Education (2006–12) and co-editor of Children, Sexuality and Sexualisation (Palsgrave, 2015).
