This Wednesday (March 1st) the second Director’s Cut event of 2017 will be taking place in the King’s College Conference Centre at 6:00 PM. We are thrilled to have the filmmaker, critic and curator Mark Cousins visiting, where he will discuss his extraordinary career as one of the great storytellers of film and film history, in conversation with Dr. Paul Flaig (Film & Visual Culture, Aberdeen).

Born in Northern Ireland and based in Edinburgh, Cousins has collaborated with Tilda Swinton, Jarvis Cocker, and Irvine Welsh and led film festivals and organized screening series throughout the UK and around the world. He is a filmmaker of amazing versatility, having, in the last few years alone, directed ‘A Story of Children and Film’, the cinematic city-symphony, ‘I am Belfast’, and, most recently, collaborated with the band Mogwai for ‘Atomic’, an essay-film marking the seventieth anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bomb. His landmark BBC series, ‘Scene to Scene’, featured interviews between Cousins and  filmmakers and actors including Jack Lemmon, David Lynch, Roman Polanski, John Sayles and many others. He is the co-founder (with Tilda Swinton) of the 8½ Foundation.

Mark is probably best known for the epic ‘The Story of Film’, a book and fifteen-part documentary re-telling the history of over a century’s worth of cinema and featuring conversations between Cousins and such film luminaries as Stanley Donen, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Lars von Trier.
