Dear Colleagues,

We would like to circulate information about York Health Economics Consortium’s searching training programme for 2017:

Introduction to Systematic Reviews for Food and Feed Related Topics (29-31 May 2017)

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to systematic review methodology with a focus on food and feed related topics. The use of systematic reviews is growing outside of the traditional areas of clinical practice. In this 2.5 day workshop we will focus on applying the systematic methodology to food and feed related topics.

Meta-Analysis in Systematic Reviews for Food and Feed Related Topics (1-2 June 2017)

The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to meta-analysis for systematic reviews of food and feed related topics. Participants will use software to conduct pairwise meta-analysis and meta-regression.

Identifying Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies: Challenges and Strategies (9th June 2017)

This training day will provide an introduction to the key features of diagnostic test accuracy studies to provide insight into retrieval challenges. This will be followed by an overview of the research evidence on search approaches to identify diagnostic studies and the key current resources available to find studies and reviews.

Health Economic Evaluations and Economic Evidence (6th September 2017)

This study day will include a ‘jargon buster’ session on the basics of health economics and economic models. It will also feature presentations about key economics information resources including the CEA Registry, and explorations of options for searching to identify data for economic models.

Searching Trials Registers and Regulatory Agency Sources (11th October 2017)

This course will address the most effective way to search clinical trial registries, given the different interfaces available and how these differences impact not only on retrieval but also on associated aspects such as managing the search results.

Advanced Search Techniques for Systematic Reviews, HTA and Guideline Development (17th October 2017)

This workshop will provide opportunities to learn new techniques, to discuss best approaches, to share insights and to assess variations in current best practice. The workshop will be facilitated by information specialists experienced in literature searching to inform systematic reviews and HTAs and in conducting research into the evidence base for information retrieval.

Advanced Search Strategy Design for Complex Topics (18th October 2017)

This training event will address the challenges of developing search strategies to capture complex topics in large bibliographic databases using different conceptual combinations and search techniques. The training will also introduce textual analytic and text mining techniques to demonstrate their potential for strategy design and testing. Participants will undertake exercises using open source visualisation tools to investigate terms within sets of records, in order to explore the value of text mining tools in their own future search strategy design.

Software to Support the Systematic Review Process (19th October 2017)

This workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about special-purpose software tools currently available to support systematic reviews and to share experiences of using software in practice. The workshop will examine and provide hands-on with both commercial and not-for-profit systematic review management packages (including Covidence, DistillerSR and EPPI-Reviewer), as well as a range of free and commercial tools to tackle single tasks within the systematic review process (such as Rayyan, RobotReviewer and SWIFT-Review).
