italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Dear Members,

You are warmly invited to attend the following book launch:

Chivalry, Academy and Cultural Dialogues: the Italian contribution to European modernity

on Wednesday, February 15th, 2017, 6-7.30 pm, IMLR, Senate House, Room 246.

Chivalry, Academy and Cultural Dialogues is a Festschrift to celebrate the recent retirement of Prof Jane E. Everson (Royal Holloway University of London). Prof Everson has been an influential scholar of early modern Italy and was the recipient of the HARC-funded Italian Academies project. To pay tribute to her research activity, scholars from all over the world have united their forces in a joint investigation and reappraisal of the Italian contribution to European culture. The resulting volume, far from being just a collection of scattered essays, is a rich exploration, organized by case-studies, of the multifarious and often neglected legacy that early modern Italian culture has brought into the wider framework of Europe and Modernity. Focusing on chivalry, academy and cultural dialogues, the volume points out the main institutional, social, political and artistic heritage of Italy and its culture in European modernity.

Speakers include Professors Corinna Salvadori (Trinity College Dublin), Martin McLaughlin (University of Oxford), and Diego Zancani (University of Oxford).
