We have the same problem and have a few students whom refuse to take them out of their pockets and still protest to my team, that they do not have a phone on. In the last week or so I have had to deal with 2
students and phones, voiding their exam with Edexcel. To then be told by a customer service staff member at Edexcel that we are not doing enough and should be enforcing the rules.
Apart from suggesting that our students are strip searched, we just follow the JCQ booklet as best we can, we give our information have the posters on show, our invigilators also state the required information.
We ask the learners to leave their bag in designated area in the room (we also have a cupboard for coats).

Subject: Mobile Phones
Hi All,
We’re struggling with enforcing no mobile phones in online exam rooms, with I believe the majority of our students putting them in their bag and telling the Invigilator that they haven’t got one with them. Our students are told to not
bring their phones or if they have to bring their phones they should come to us before the exam and we look after it (we have a raffle ticket system to ensure we give the right person the right phone). In an ideal world I’d say no bags in the exam room but
I can’t facilitate that. What do others do?
Many Thanks
Rachel

Please note that mobile phones and smartwatches are not permitted into Examination Rooms, please remind your students that they must hand their mobile phone/smartwatch into the Examinations
Team for safe keeping before their examination. Anyone found to have a mobile phone/smartwatch in an examination will be jeopardising their examination.
