15th Pavia Graduate Conference in Political Philosophy

12th and 13th September 2017

CALL FOR PAPERS

On the 12th and 13th of September 2017, the Department of Political
and Social Sciences, University of Pavia (Italy), under the joint
patronage of the Italian Society for Political Philosophy and the
Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy, will host the 15th edition of
the Pavia Graduate Conference in Political Philosophy. The conference
is held within the framework of the PhD Program in Philosophy of the
North-west Italy Philosophy Consortium (FINO) with the sponsorship of
the Compagnia di San Paolo, Torino. This two-day conference is meant
to offer graduate students an opportunity to present papers, get
helpful feedback in a friendly atmosphere, and exchange ideas both
with peers and with leading academics in the field of political
philosophy. In addition to parallel sessions devoted to students’
presentations, there will also be two plenary sessions. Plenary
speakers in past editions have been: Hillel Steiner, Anna Elisabetta
Galeotti, Peter Jones, Gianfrancesco Zanetti, Jonathan Wolff, Michele
Nicoletti, Philippe Van Parijs, Sebastiano Maffettone, Giovanni
Giorgini, Andrew Williams, David Miller, Alessandro Ferrara, Valeria
Ottonelli, Adam Swift, Gerald Gaus, Serena Olsaretti, Thomas M.
Scanlon, Philip Pettit, Carla Bagnoli, Thomas Christiano, Furio
Cerutti, Fabienne Peter, Antonella Besussi, and Andrea Sangiovanni.
This year’s keynote speakers are:

Mario De Caro (Università degli Studi di Roma Tre & Tufts University)

Cécile Laborde (Nuffield College, Oxford)

Graduate students interested in giving papers should send their
contributions (max 2500/3000 words – in English) accompanied by a
short abstract (max 300 words – in English) and a curriculum vitae, by
Monday 7th May 2017. Papers may focus on any area within political
philosophy, and presentations should take no longer than twenty
minutes to allow at least another twenty minutes of discussion. Papers
must be prepared for blind review and files must be anonymized. Please
note that Monday 7th May is also the deadline for registration for
anyone who wishes to attend the conference without presenting a paper.

PAVIA GRADUATE CONFERENCE ANNIVERSARY AWARD

To celebrate our 15th anniversary, we will select the best two papers
and award two grants (covering meals and accommodation) to their
authors. The award-winning papers will be presented in a plenary
session. The award is sponsored by the Compagnia di San Paolo, Torino
within the framework of the Phd Program of the North-West Italy
Philosophy Consortium, FINO.

Conference registration is free of charge. Accommodation in university
colleges is available to paper givers. Accommodation fees and details
