One-Day Conference: Literary Geographies
This one-day workshop will build on the key question raised by a group of papers published in the latest issue of the journal Literary Geographies: ‘what is literary space, how is it defined, and how does it relate to the extra-textual world?’ The roundtable will take this question as the starting point for a wide-ranging discussion about current and future literary geography theory and practice.
This will be a collaborative event in three stages: (1) planning the agenda, (2) roundtable discussion, and (3) production of position papers. During the first stage, topics for discussion will be developed from contributed suggestions. This phase will be followed by a roundtable discussion at Emmanuel College, Cambridge on March 20th (15-20 participants). In the third phase, participants will be invited to author, co-author or review short (c.1500 word) position papers, developed from the workshop discussion, for the ‘Thinking Space’ section of the journal Literary Geographies.
Those interested in contributing to the event and/or participating in the workshop are invited to email the organisers Dave McLaughlin ([log in to unmask]) and Sheila Hones ([log in to unmask]) with suggestions for specific discussion topics and questions (about 150 words).
We are hoping to make the
event free of charge for attendees and may be able to provide a limited number
of bursaries for travel and accommodation. Affordable accommodation will be
available through Emmanuel College. Details to follow.
