Dear all,

Registrations for UEL's access to higher education for refugees and asylum seekers course OLIve (Open Learning Initiative) which will begin on the 29 April and run for 10 consecutive Saturdays (9.30-5) are now open. Please find information attached.

As some of you are associated with groups and projects that work with refugee women, I would appreciate it if you could forward the attached information and registration form to your relevant networks and inspire any refugee students (especially women) interested in the FREE to attend course.

University of East London is offering a 10-week course for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. The aim of the course is to introduce refugees and asylum seekers to Higher Education. The OLIve course offers an opportunity for students to find out what skills and knowledge are needed in order to apply for and succeed in HE in the UK and provides information about pathways and opportunities. The course is funded by EU's Erasmus+ programme. As UEL staff and students, many of us are volunteering to the course.

The course offers modules and workshops in English language and academic writing, research skills, academic tutoring and introduction to academic discussions. The course runs on Saturdays 29 April to 1 July 9.30am to 5pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Application deadline is 29 March and we may call students for an interview prior to the commencement of the course.

Please forward the information to any of your contacts who may be interested in attending the course. In my experience, it is often that women refugees and girls interested in higher studies shy away from attending such programme. It would be great if you can forward this to any migrant and refugee women's rights organisations that can reach out to young refugee women and explain the potential of the course.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to have more information about the course.

Thanks and best wishes,

Rumana
