Hi Sanjidah
happy new year

and just to echo Dom's wise words of encouragement.. there will be any number of opportunities in South Korea to extend your experience and hence confidence in science communication..

I recently visited South Korea on a Churchill Fellowship into STEM education and made contact with a number of other agencies and science museums with different approaches to public engagement and education outreach activities..

If you contact me directly

I'd be happy to suggest some contacts

all the best

Hi Sanjidah

In addition to the good advice already offered (especially Stevie’s) I would add that you can get a huge amount out of the EFL bit of your time in Korea. You’ll be taking a difficult subject and working hard to communicate it to people with very different levels of interest and expertise. You’ll need to start where they are and take them, incrementally, to a new and hopefully more developed place. This is a “craft” that you can’t really learn in any other way than by doing it, fouling up, and reflecting on what went wrong… but the skills you will be developing as you do so will stand you in very good stead in the future.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Starting a career in Science Communication?

Hello Psci-commers,

I was hoping you could share advice or thoughts on beginning your journey into Science Communication. I am sure many of you have been in this boat and can impart some wisdom.

As 2017 commences I will be going to South Korea to teach English for a year. I come from a science background with a BSc in Astrophysics and am also an artist. I have worked as a Tutor since graduating and contributed to the London Branch of the British Science Association. After Korea, I aim to return back home to the UK and complete a Masters (in Sci Com/Science Writing/yet to be decided).

Does anyone have any general tips or guidance on how I can improve my chances of landing the (competitive) job I desire or improving the required skills? How should I be filling my spare time?

Many thanks and Happy New Year!

Sanjidah Sabur
