italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies Dear all, Just a reminder that the deadline for submitting proposals for the 2nd and 3rd workshops for the Queer Italia Network is Friday 20 January. INVITO ALLA PARTECIPAZIONE QuIR Queer Italia Network L* Queer Italia Network (QuIR) sta costruendo una rete internazionale di studios*, attivist* e attor* cultural* che prendano in esame le sessualità, le identità, le culture, le politiche queer e la ricerca scientifica su questi fenomeni (per maggiore informazione, si veda il nostro sito www.queeritalia.com). Stiamo cercando partecipanti per il secondo e il terzo incontro del nostro ciclo di laboratori. Ogni laboratorio si focalizza su un argomento specifico in rapporto alle teorie critiche e alle pratiche di “queeritudine” e di italianità. Perciò, coloro che desiderano partecipare sono pregat* di mandare proposte per l’incontro che corrisponde al meglio alle tematiche specifiche delle loro attività e ricerca. Qui di seguito troverete tutti i dettagli su come partecipare. Laboratorio 2: Tradurre le storicità queer 23-24 giugno 2017 Institute of Modern Languages Research, Londra Questo laboratorio si dedicherà all’analisi di fenomeni queer tra lingue, culture e momenti storici. Includerà delle riflessioni critiche visive, performative e scientifiche sui modi in cui le modalità queer anglo-americane e/o italiane modellano e sono modellate dal linguaggio, dalla cultura e dal tempo. Questo incontro si focalizzerà sulle seguenti questioni: 1. Il queer storico: Come potremmo collocare le nostre comprensioni delle possibilità del queer italiano al passato/storico? Cosa è in gioco quando tracciamo degli elementi queer nelle escavazioni storiche e nelle analisi della dissidenza (sia sessuale che in altre forme)? 2. Il queer e l’archivio italiano: Come potremmo identificare, ricordare o altrimenti avvicinarci all’archivio queer italiano per quanto riguarda la forma, il contenuto e la memoria? 3. Queerizzare il tempo e il linguaggio: Come si sono sviluppate e sono migrate forme di “queeritudine” attraverso il tempo, le culture e i linguaggi? Quale contributo potrebbero fornire le ricerche specifiche sull’Italia alla queerizzazione delle relazioni temporali e linguistiche? 4. Il tempo e la traduzione: Quali sono le procedure di ‘traduzione’ in atto quando cerchiamo di capire il queer in altre zone temporali, culturali e linguistiche? Come potremmo queerizzare la traduzione stessa per capire meglio le relazioni tra i testi e il tempo? 5. Traduzione e/come attivismo italiano: Qual è il ruolo della traduzione nell’attivismo LGBTQAI nel contesto italiano? La traduzione può essere considerata una forma di attivismo? Se la traduzione fosse queerizzata, quale impatto avrebbe sulle interpretazioni storiche dell’attivismo? Laboratorio 3: L’arte e l’attivismo queer transnazionali 13-14 luglio 2017 Università degli studi del Piemonte Orientale, Vercelli In questo laboratorio interrogheremo i modi in cui le arti e l’attivismo s’intersecano, si rafforzano e impiegano le loro forze divergenti e/o complementari per creare degli spazi, dei dialoghi e delle politiche queer nel contesto italiano. Alcune questioni che discuteremo in questo incontro sono: 1. L’attivismo e la performance: Qual è il rapporto tra l’attivismo queer e la performance in Italia e come si è sviluppato nei decenni recenti? Che tipi di dialogo sono in corso, e con quale effetto? 2. Le performatività: Come potremmo utilizzare le teorie sulla performatività per migliorare le nostre interpretazioni delle performance queer, e/o le nostre interpretazioni queer delle performance? Possiamo guardare i movimenti LGBTQAI attivisti tramite le stesse lenti teoriche? 3. Incarnazione [embodiment]: Qual è il ruolo del corpo o del sè queer incarnat* nell’attivismo e nella performance queer? 4. La creatività e la collaborazione: Qual è l’importanza della creatività per l’attivismo? Come potrebbe essere sviluppata attraverso delle iniziative collaborative? 5. Le prospettive transnazionali: Qual é/potrebbe essere il ruolo delle relazioni e dei dialoghi transnazionali nello sviluppo delle pratiche creative e/o attiviste? L* QuIR invita studios*, artist* ed attivist* a proporre abstract per interventi, dichiarazioni artistiche e idee per spettacoli che in qualche modo rispondano, o mettano in questione, le tematiche proposte. Gli eventi includeranno diverse tipologie di sessioni nei due giorni, tra cui spettacoli, tavole rotonde e brevi interventi. Le due lingue dei laboratori saranno l’italiano e l’inglese. CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS QuIR Queer Italia Network As Queer Italia Network (QuIR) continues to build an international network of scholars, activists, and cultural practitioners who engage with queer sexualities, identities, cultures, scholarship and politics in Italy (see our website www.queeritalia.com for more information), we are calling for participants for our 2nd and 3rd workshops. Each workshop focuses on a specific theme and its relation to critical theories and practices of queerness and Italianness. Thus, interested persons are invited to submit proposals for the workshop that best corresponds to their specific lines of inquiry and engagement. See the calls below for details. Workshop 2: Translating Queer Historicities 23-24 June 2017 Institute of Modern Languages Research, London This workshop is dedicated to exploring phenomena across languages, cultures and time. It will include visual, performative, and scholarly inquiries into the ways that Anglo and/or Italian queerness shapes and are shaped by language, culture, and time. This workshop will center on the following areas of inquiry: 1. Historical Queerness: How might we frame our understanding of the possibilities of past/historical Italian queerness? What is at stake when we trace queerness in historical excavations and analyses of dissidence (both sexual and otherwise)? 2. Queerness and the Italian Archive: How do we identify, remember or otherwise engage with the Italian queer archive on the level of form, content, or memory? 3. Queering Time and Language: How have forms of queerness migrated and evolved across time, cultures and languages? What may Italian specific studies contribute to queering temporal-linguistic relations? 4. Time and Translation: What processes of ‘translation’ are at work when we seek to make sense of queerness in other temporal, cultural and linguistic zones? What are the ways that translation can be queered to understand the relationships between texts and time? 5. Translation as/and Italian Activism: When engaging in LGBTQAI activism in the Italian context, what role might translation play? Can translation be activism? What might queering translation contribute to historical understandings of activism? Workshop 3: Queer Transnational Arts and Activism 13-14 July 2017 Università degli studi del Piemonte Orientale, Vercelli This workshop will interrogate the ways that arts and activism intersect, build upon one another, and use their divergent and/or complementary strengths to create spaces, dialogues, and politics of queerness in an Italian context. Some questions this workshop seeks to address are: 1. Activism and Performance: What is the relationship between queer activism and performance in Italy and how has this developed in recent decades? What kinds of dialogue are in progress and to what effect? 2. Performativity: How might theoretical approaches to performativity inform our understandings of queer performance or queer readings of performance? Might we use these same theoretical lenses when approaching Italian LGBTQAI activist movements? 3. Embodiment: What role has the body or the embodied queer self played in queer activism and performance? 4. Creativity and Collaboration: How significant is creativity in activism? How might this be developed through collaborative initiatives? 5. Transnational approaches: What role can/might transnational relationships and dialogues play in evolving creative and/or activist practices? QuIR invites scholars, artists, and activists to submit paper proposals, artist statements, and performance ideas that in some way address, or call into question the issues above. The workshops will consist of various formats including but not limited to performances, roundtable discussions, and panels over the course of each day.
