ITALIAN MODERNITIES book series, 2007-2017 https://www.peterlang.com/view/serial/SIMIC To mark the 10th anniversary of the Italian Modernities book series, Peter Lang Oxford is delighted to announce the Young Scholars Competition in Modern Italian Studies 2017. Proposals for the competition should be submitted to Christabel Scaife ([log in to unmask]) by 15 April 2017. These should include a book proposal (including rationale, chapter synopses, potential readership, rival publications, delivery date), a short CV and a sample section or chapter (up to 10,000 words in length) in separate Microsoft Word documents. Proposals must fit within the remit of the Italian Modernities series (see below) and must be written in English or Italian. Proposals under review elsewhere should not be submitted. The winner will be offered a contract for a non-subsidized book to be published in the series Italian Modernities within six months of receipt of the complete and approved manuscript. Planned manuscripts should be 60,000 to 100,000 words in length (including notes and bibliography). Authors will be expected to copy-edit the manuscript in accordance with the style guidelines provided. The book series Italian Modernities, edited by Pierpaolo Antonello and Robert Gordon of the University of Cambridge, publishes innovative research on the written, material and visual cultures and intellectual history of modern Italy, from the nineteenth century to the present day. It is open to a wide variety of different approaches and methodologies, disciplines and interdisciplinary fields: from literary criticism and comparative literature to archival history, from cultural studies to material culture, from film and media studies to art history. It is especially interested in work that articulates aspects of Italy’s particular, and in many respects, peculiar, interactions with notions of modernity and postmodernity, broadly understood. It also aims to encourage critical dialogue between new developments in scholarship in Italy and in the English-speaking world. Applicants should be early career scholars and should have been awarded a PhD between 2012 and 2017 or expect to be awarded a PhD in 2018. The publisher’s terms and conditions for the competition also require that applicants have a connection to one of the following countries: the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States of America, Canada, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand. Such connections may include being resident in one of the eligible countries, holding citizenship of one of the eligible countries or having completed postgraduate work at a university in one of the eligible countries. Please note that for proposals submitted to the Italian Modernities series outside the Young Scholars Competition, these restrictions do not apply: potential authors should contact the series editors directly. A decision as to the winning submission will be made by mid-June and the winner will be notified shortly thereafter.
