Open PhD position in the Research Centre Jülich (Germany)

We are looking for a PhD student for a project to understand the folding of the human brain from physical principles. The human brain is in several ways optimized for efficient and effective information processing. One key factor is its folding, which is one of the highest among terrestrial mammals. Several studies suggest a mechanical origin of the folding patterns. However, the mechanism is still far from understood. The PhD project focuses on this role of mechanics in brain folding, including analysis of the role of fiber tracts.
The PhD work will be conducted at the Research Centre Jülich, in joint collaboration of the research groups of Prof. Dr. Svenja Caspers (INM-1) and Dr. Jens Elgeti (ICS-2).
