Hi Sally,
We also just have a section in the main policy
In cases of mitigating circumstances, a candidate will always be encouraged to take an exam. If a candidate takes an exam but feels that his/her exam performance has been adversely affected
by mitigating circumstances, such as illness, bereavement or trauma immediately leading up to or on the day of an exam, an application for special consideration can be made on the candidate’s behalf. It is the responsibility of the candidate to inform the
Exams Officer of the circumstances and to provide appropriate evidence to support the application within 5 working days from the exam date.
In most cases, if the student misses an exam, they will be regarded as absent, receive no marks and will have to take the exam at a later date. Teaching staff must ensure that the student
is entered for the exam for the next available exam series. If the student misses an exam in the summer exam series for a legitimate reason, an application for special consideration can be made. Again, appropriate evidence must be given to the Exams Officer
to support the application within 5 working days from the exam date. The student may be awarded a mark/grade for the unit based on previous achievement and/or estimated grades.
The Exams Officer will submit applications for special consideration within 7 working days of the last exam for the specification
Thanks
Jade

Subject: Re: Special Consideration Policy
Hi Sally
We just have a general section in the main exams policy, which is this:
Special Consideration
·
Should a student be too ill to sit an exam, suffer bereavement or other trauma or be taken ill during the exam itself, it is the student’s responsibility to alert
the Exams team or the invigilator of this.
·
Special consideration can only be applied for after an exam has taken place and within certain conditions and timescales.
·
Students must supply appropriate evidence to support special consideration applications within 5 days of the exam, for example a doctor’s letter.
·
The Exams team will make a special consideration application to the appropriate awarding body within set deadlines, usually within a week of the last exam paper in
the relevant subject in the exam series
Best wishes
Gillian

Don’t think we need one of these do we? Don’t we just follow JCQ guidelines?
