This is the response from our account specialist:

BTEC papers can be handed out to teaching staff as soon as all candidates at your centre have completed the examination, You can also send these back to us and we can securely destroy them.

As for the functional skills, we have recently been made told there is a contradiction in the ICE document about what to do with spare copies, we are asking centres to return these along with completed scripts.

Kind regards

Hi Everyone

We were told to keep hold of the BTEC Paper based exam papers until the results had come through and then give them to teaching staff!!

Clarification would be great!!!!

When I spoke to them they said to keep them secure until the next two series results are through but then they phoned me the next day and said to return them all with the scripts. They said they would amend the ICE book and let everyone know. So that’s what I do now.

I spoke with out Pearson contact a couple of weeks ago, the advice given was;

BTEC Paper based exams – as per the JCQ guidelines, keep secure until 24 Hours after the exam and then we can give them to teaching staff.

Functional Skills Paper based exams – Either return them with the scripts or hold them in secure storage until 2 additional series have passed and we can then use them for T&L. So for example the papers from November would be held until the end of the February test window and then could be given to teaching staff.

So many variations from the same board is ridiculous!

Thanks

Jade

Thanks for that Jen.  We will probably run a handful of FS maths in the summer, so will see if any updated instructions appear before then.  Last June we had an inspection visit from Pearson – for 4 candidates (of which one was absent!)!

Hi Paul

We have had this answer once from Pearson about the BTEC (the latest answer in fact).  This makes the most sense to me and is what we have been doing to date. However I think that the FS papers are going to have to be returned to Pearson rather than destroyed (according to our account specialist writing on 18th January)

Thank you

Hi Jennifer,

When we enquired about this they stated that the BTEC papers were subject to the same rules as those covered by the JCQ ICE.  FS papers cannot be given out to teachers, and should be destroyed.

Do those answers compute with those given by Pearson during any conversation?

Hi everyone

In the wake of the debate about what we should do with Pearson functional skills question papers after the exams (apparently they are updating the ICE document to give a definitive answer about this) does anyone know what we are supposed to be doing with the paper based BTEC exam question papers after the exams?

We cannot get the same answer twice from Pearson and there is nothing written down that we can find.

Thank you for your help
