Subject: Retention of volunteer records

Dear All

We are reviewing our retention of volunteer files (application forms, contact details, communications, records of review meetings, signed volunteer agreements, references, results of vetting checks) which are currently retained for 7 years from end of volunteering period. The feeling is that this is too long and 3 years has been suggested instead. I'm finding it difficult to source specific guidance on this and wondered what others are doing? We are governed by a charitable trust but I am not aware of any industry specific regulations involving volunteers.

Many thanks
Jenny
