The atlases and templates used depend on what methods you are using. The SPM12 Normalise function uses the TPM.nii files as can be seen in the ‘Tissue probability map’ estimation option. In the spm directory is a file called spm_templates.man (try ‘which spm_templates.man’). This describes how the IXI database was used to make templates. There are also tissue probability maps for the ICBM-152 dataset in the DARTEL toolbox (try ‘which icbm152.nii’). You can warp a DARTEL template (or some other) to the ICBM space using ‘Population to ICBM Registration’ option of DARTEL tools. The IXI templates are from an older group and are smaller than the ICBM.

Subject: [SPM] MNI space atlas in SPM12

Dear SPM users,

I'm using SPM12 and looking into normalizing fMRI data to the MNI standard space, which SPM does via registration of the structural data to this space and then apply this transform on the fMRI data. However, I was wondering what atlas SPM12 uses (is it the MNI-ICBM-152 ?) and where this atlas is listed in the SPM folders. Because the only thing I can find and that seems to be used in the normalisation is "TPM.nii" which is a probability map for gray matter, but not a structural MRI image, such as an atlas.
Thanks in advance.
