Postdoctoral Research Scientist

UCSF—University of California, San Francisco

Description

The Brain Imaging and EEG Lab (BIEEGL) stands at the forefront of clinical neuroscience, focused on understanding the neural mechanisms responsible for the devastating symptoms of schizophrenia and psychosis.  Our major research tools are electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).  These complementary tools allow assessment of brain function with millisecond resolution in the time domain, and millimeter resolution in the spatial/anatomical domain.

BIEEGL is looking for talented post-doctoral neuroscientists interested in pursuing innovative brain science to answer some of most perplexing questions about psychosis.  Postdoctoral fellows will have unique opportunities to work in close collaboration with our team of neuroscientists, psychologists and psychiatrists.  If you are looking for a postdoctoral position that immerses you in 21st century neuroscience, we want to hear from you!

This is an excellent position for someone looking to integrate their skillset into a large research group of clinical neuroscientists, with the expectation of undertaking data analysis and assisting in preparation of manuscripts/grant applications for a multiple-PI laboratory.  (Note, co-authorships are expected to result from the postdoctoral fellow's collaboration with PIs.  However, the core function of this position will be data analysis and technical support, rather than project lead; therefore, this position is not ideal if the primary career goal is to develop an independent line of research/prepare for the academic faculty market.)

The ideal candidate will have:

Matlab programming and data analysis expertise

Experience with human brain imaging (EEG and fMRI) including analysis on both individual subject and group levels

Experience applying QA programs to ensure high quality data

   Strong quantitative and analytical skills

   Creative problem solving skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Interest in manuscript/grant preparation (emphasis on contributing to methods/results sections and figures)

A desire to work with an amicable, energetic, interdisciplinary team

PhD in Neuroscience or in a related field
