it occurred to me today to wonder about Victor Leroquais. He is often referred to as the "Abbé Leroquais" and I was given to wonder, Abbot of what?
A quick google search revealed an obituary (
http://www.persee.fr/doc/scrip_0036-9772_1946_num_1_1_2063) from 1946f that says the was vicaire at Lisieux, and priest in Beny-sur-mer, and spoke movingly of how he went every day for thirty years to the BN manuscripts room at took the same seat. I learn also that he was a Canon in the diocese of Dijon. But I don't see where he was an abbot. Does anyone know if this was an honorific? He is also often called "the canon Leroquais."
