Dear Colleagues

At the University of Southampton we link use turnitin and we access it in two different ways. One is directly through our VLE (BlackBoard) and the other is through our in-house eAssignment system which was developed using JISC funding.

turnitin are changing the way that we integrate to them via eAssignment and they are currently insisting that students click through into turnitin when they submit work. At the moment, we bulk submit the work once all assignments have been submitted which is a much more effective and streamlined process.

We have two questions.

1 – does anyone else have an in-house system that integrates to turnitin and are you experiencing the same problems with the new integration? Please feel free to share this with your IT colleagues if they are better placed to respond. They can respond directly to Liv Stobseth-Brown, [log in to unmask] and Andy Rotton, [log in to unmask]

2 – does anyone use a plagiarism checker other than turnitin? If so, what do you use and how effective is it? Also, did you previously use turnitin?

I will be happy to collate responses and post back to the list.
