Dear collective wisdom.
We have an application from our colleagues in radiology for a Coaguchek INR meter.
On further investigation we have established that very few of their patients are actually on warfarin. Apparently the national radiology guidelines state that an INR should be measured on
every patient undergoing certain interventions (CT guided biopsy, ureteric stents, US guided biopsies… the list goes on!). Obviously ideally the GP measures a lab PT/INR a few days before the patient pitches up to radiology, but that process fails regularly
so radiology are looking for PoCT solution.
We contacted Roche who state that the Coaguchek is suited to monitor coagulation values in people taking oral anticoagulation medication and they don’t have any data to support the use of the device in non-warfarinised
patients.
Has anyone else come across this issue with radiology and come up with a solution?
Many thanks,
Sally
