Hello Linda,
I'm writing to support Dee's view re unreliability of cheap MP3 players. The iPod s that I purchased nearly 3 years ago are still going strong (out on loan again two weeks ago), they keep their charge well, which cheaper ones don't. Altogether better value for money for the project and for the funder.
All best,
Sue

Hi Linda

I've bought cheaper MP3 models and it's was a disaster (twice). Extremely unreliable. In the end, I upgraded it ipod shuffles for reliability and long term use as well as simplicity of design. In the long run, cheaper! They all come with earbuds so I just buy some disinfectant wipes to clean them before each use. People can use their own if they want of course.

Hi Linda,

You could just get some plug-in microphones for smartphones/ tablets (plug into earpiece) - cost around £20 - £30.You can download apps like Zoom or recorder onto the phones - super easy to use.

Jessops have relatively cheap miss

Best,

Hello there,

I hope all your respective projects and ventures are going well.

I am organising an audio-guided walking art event using an MP3 file and would like advice re. most suitable audio devices to use. I am applying for a small grant. I originally applied for ipod shuffles but the grant awarding committee baulked at the cost (although have agreed to defer a decision until I have explored other options as they like the idea) and I now wonder if I was being unreasonable!

Whatever I order needs to be fairly easy to use, both in terms of operating for participants and uploading files from Mac's and other pc's and also reliable as we intend using whatever devices we eventually purchase for other events. Do people have experience of asking participants to bring along their own earbuds, etc. If so, how has this worked out?

I'd be grateful for some advice from those of you who are familiar with these sorts of things, if you have a moment or two to spare!

Regards,  Linda.
