I’d second both of those nominations. Erin would be great if you want a researcher perspective from a non-IT domain (biology). Victoria would be great if you want more of a focus on reproducibility and research software issues.

I have found both Erin McKiernan and Victoria Stodden to be passionate and lucid speakers on these topics. Both have a background in the sciences (vs. humanities). Thanks for references to the speaker databases—they are both new to me.

Good luck,

Hello all

We are planning to hold an Open Research-themed event for our academics and research students in the Spring next year. We would like to invite a couple of academics to give plenary talks, who can inspire our audience through their passion for Open Research and by talking about the adoption of Open methods in their research practice. They could be talking about any or all of OA of any colour, data, software, use of Open-enabling technologies, involvement in community initiatives, etc. We’d like to invite two speakers with recognised profiles, one in the sciences, and one in the humanities, who can speak with enthusiasm about the aspects of Open Research that are important to them. We consider it important that our speakers be active researchers, who can speak to our audience as one of them (rather than one of us!).

Can anybody suggest academics who might fit the bill? Are there any directory resources for speakers in this area I should be aware of? I foundhttp://oad.simmons.edu/oadwiki/OA_speakers_bureau and http://www.righttoresearch.org/resources/Speakersdatabase/index.shtml but most of those listed are on the service provider side of things.

All suggestions would be gratefully received. If you prefer to share off-list, please feel free to contact me directly.

While I am here: this will be our first such event and we’re learning as we go along. If you have put on events along similar lines and have experience you would love to share, I should be very happy to hear about it.

Thank you

Robert
