Really exciting Marta, to see Wellcome’s Open Research strategy moving ahead in practice. From the recent survey and focus groups we did with Wellcome-funded researchers, I could that they’re very motivated,
and positive towards openness, so I’m sure you’ll get enough interest.

Marta,
This looks really interesting. I look forward to the blogs, etc. Do you have any ESRC-funded Centres that might join?

Subject: Open Research experiment in Cambridge
Good morning All,
I wanted to let you know about an interesting (I think!) experiment we’re doing in Cambridge. The
Research Data Team jointly with the Wellcome Trust is running a 2 year Open Research Pilot Project. This project will look at gaining an understanding of what is needed for researchers to
share and get credit for all outputs of the research process. These include non-positive results, protocols, source code, presentations and other research outputs beyond the remit of traditional publications. The Project aims to understand the barriers preventing
researchers from sharing (including resource and time implications), as well as what incentivises the process.
We’re looking for 2-3 research groups (from Cambridge and funded by the Wellcome) committed to sharing and to take part in this project. The deadline for them to apply is 11 December.
The incentive here is doing ‘A Good Thing’ – no monetary reward is provided.
That’s an experiment and we have no ideas what to expect – perhaps no one will apply?
More info about the project is available here:

Anyways, I thought this might be of interest. Regardless of the outcome (0 or 5 applicants?), we will blog about this in December/January.
Best,
Marta
