It's bringing centuries of archives into the digital age.

It's finding innovative ways to make progress, and it’s the satisfaction of working with a truly unique collection. This is what   makes working for The Royal Household exceptional.

The Royal Archives has a uniquely rich and engrossing history, containing manuscripts of the official and personal archives of the Sovereign and Members of the Royal Family spanning 250 years.

As part of a small team reporting to the Archives Manager, your main challenge will be to design and assist with the   implementation of a cataloguing and metadata master-plan for the Royal Archives.

Leading on a variety of cataloguing projects, you’ll identify descriptive metadata already available, assess the need for   enhancement and manage their conversion and migration to cataloguing systems. In addition, you’ll be part of the team introducing archiving strategies for digital records.

You will undertake the full range of archival work, from reading room supervision and answering enquiries, to preparing displays, cataloguing and supporting the transfer and accession of records. The accurate and consistent metadata that you provide will support a range of search services.

In everything you do you will aim to engage a growing audience with an expanding collection of records.

About you:

With an archives related post-graduate qualification, and experience of implementing cataloguing and access strategies within archives, libraries or similar, you’re the expert we need.

You'll know how to apply exceptional archive cataloguing standards and service, have experience of digital archives, and will be eager to take on the challenges of working with a mix of historic and current records.

You're a methodical worker, with exceptional organisation and time management skills, able to manage and deliver projects within a deadline driven environment.

A natural communicator, you'll be confident liaising with a broad spectrum of people on a daily basis. Your high standards of written work will be important too.

A working knowledge of one or more foreign language would be an asset, but of greater importance are your self-motivation, initiative and excellent problem solving skills.

You can look forward to a comprehensive benefits package, including a 15% employer contribution pension scheme, 33 days annual leave, including bank holidays, free lunch and access to training and development to support your continuous professional development.

Please apply before 23:55 on Sunday 11th December 2016 via this link: https://theroyalhousehold.tal.net/vx/lang-en-GB/appcentre-1/candidate/postings/217
