Which skills do people need to prepare for research practice now and in the future?

This is one of the 6 Jisc 'co-design challenges' - topics on which we'd like to spark a sector discussion over the next 4 weeks to identify the most promising areas to explore.

About this challenge
The practice of research is changing - the use of new technologies and approaches requires up-to-date research skills. A richer research environment offers both opportunities and challenges, but it is easy for researchers to miss out on ideas that could make for better research outputs.

Equipping those involved in research with a comprehensive skill set fit for tomorrow will help keep the UK as a leader in research. Apart from the use of digital technologies in developing new processes, recent developments in open research, advances in cross-disciplinary working and collaboration, and considerations for research data management also require different competencies.

Fuller text about the challenge is at: https://www.jisc.ac.uk/rd/get-involved/which-skills-do-people-need-to-prepare-for-research-practice-now-and-in-the-future

We would like you to share your thoughts on our blog, on your own blogs, on twitter #codesign16 or by email, and Jisc will incorporate them into the ongoing synthesis of discussion, which will be on our blog at: https://researchdata.jiscinvolve.org/wp/category/codesign16/

Questions for you to consider

* How can we ensure that knowledge, good practice, data and tools are shared and reused?

* What skills are needed to get the most out of research? Who needs these skills and how can we ensure that these are developed?

* To what extent is it important that researchers understand their digital identity?

* How can we move beyond competencies and compliance towards expertise?

How to get involved

* Share your thoughts on Twitter using #codesign16

* Join us for a live tweet chat by using #codesign16 on Tuesday 8 November 11:00-12:00
