Dear Frances,

I am writing to inquire on behalf of myself and the Cardiff SEG Student Chapter about whether it is possible to attend the student networking afternoon on the Monday without registering for the whole conference?

Kind Regards

Subject: [GEO-MINERALISATION] MDSG 2016: Early-bird registration and abstract submission close Nov 18th

Dear colleagues,

Please don’t forget that early-bird registration and abstract submission for the 40th Annual Mineral Deposits Studies Group Meeting close on Friday 18th November. The final deadline for registration is Friday 2nd December.

The meeting will be held at the University of Bristol from Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st December and full information can be found on the conference website:

www.mdsgbristol.org

A few things to note:

Registration
Early-bird registration rates for professionals, PhD students, and MSc students will apply until Friday 18th November and final registration will close on Friday 2nd December. Undergraduate registration will open on Monday 14th November. Registration fees include an Icebreaker Reception and a Conference Banquet in the Wills Memorial Building, lunches and teas on both conference days, an abstract volume, and a conference pack.

Abstracts
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday 18th November. Abstracts must be submitted via the link on the website using the template provided. Contributions are invited on any topic related to mineral deposits and are particularly welcome from postgraduate students wishing to report research in progress. We will give as many early career scientists as possible the opportunity to make oral presentations. Following the deadline, abstracts will be organised into sessions with a common theme.

Keynotes
Our keynote speakers this year include:
Richard Sillitoe, Consultant - Volcanoes and Porphyry Deposits (a kick-off lecture before the Icebreaker)
Matthew Field, Amec Foster Wheeler - Kimberlite volcanology and diamond resource evaluation
Cam McCuaig, BHP Billiton - Mineral Systems: Key to Exploration Targeting
Jeremy Richards, University of Alberta - Tectonomagmatic controls on arc metallogeny
Alison Rust, University of Bristol - Physics of volcanoes and ore deposits
John Thompson, Cornell University - Changing World - Changing Exploration
Frances Wall, Camborne School of Mines - Responsible sourcing of critical metals

Field trip and student networking events
The University of Bristol SEG Student Chapter is organising two events at the meeting:
(1) A pre-conference field trip to Dolaucothi Gold Mines in Wales on Sunday 18th December.
(2) A student networking afternoon on Monday 19th December.
Full information about both events can be found on the website. To register your interest for either one, please email [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask].

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bristol in December!

Best wishes,

Frances Cooper and the MDSG 2016 Organising Committee
