I am a current mature student at Cardiff University (BA Hons nursing) -  and also a member of this forum.
I can confirm that calculators are not permitted during calculation tests at Cardiff. Extra time is allowed though as recommended by Needs Assessments.

Hello

They are not allowed here at the University of Greenwich.  Extra time is the only adjustment.  I too would be interested in what happens elsewhere.  We have quite a few post registration  courses and students on these courses say they are common in clinical practice.

Subject: Use of Calculator

Dear All,

I have a query from a nursing student wanting to use a calculator during the Safe Medicate Exam (Drugs Calculations).  The student has a SpLD and will have 25% extra time.

Our regulations state that a calculator is not to be used during this exam, however the student has said that other institutions allow this.

I would be most grateful if you could let me know whether your institution does allow the use of a calculator during these exams, or if other provisions/adjustments are put in place.

Thanks in advance,

Delyth
