This is an exciting time for the Hull History Centre as the City prepares for City of Culture in 2017.

A partnership between Hull City Council and the University of Hull,  the Centre preserves and makes accessible City and University archives, and local studies material and has welcomed over 200,000 visitors since its opening in January 2010. Hull City Council’s partnership role is administered by Hull Culture & Leisure Ltd, a wholly owned company.

The Hull Dock Board collection is important for the understanding of the economic, commercial and archaeological development of the Port of Hull and the wider Humber estuary and as such is the core of Hull City Archive’s maritime holdings. Vital to the understanding of the history and development of Hull and ports in general, these records are of local, regional, national and international interest.

We are looking to recruit a qualified professional archivist with experience of appraising and cataloguing a complex collection onto a recognised collection management system such as CALM. You will also have the communication skills to help recruit and train volunteers, some experience of outreach work and the ability to work to project deadlines.

You must have comprehensive theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of the concepts, principals and practice of archive administration, and knowledge of the national standards and legislation to ensure the permanent preservation of the collection.

For an informal discussion please contact Carol Tanner, Access & Collections Manager on 01482 317504.

Closing date: Friday 9th December 2016

Shortlisting: w/c 12th December 2016

Interviews: w/c 9th January 2017
