Dear Collective,

Do you have any data on suitability of serum/plasma samples for further testing if the specimen was stored frozen in gel tubes? We aliquot samples for storage at -20C but occasionally we receive samples from referral labs in frozen gel tubes, arriving in dry ice.

I found one paper on the topic regarding viral serology tests done in frozen and unfrozen primary gel tubes that showed no difference in results: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC321361/

However, I would be interested in what labs do and whether they accept samples received in frozen gel tubes?  I would also value it if you could share data of any studies on this topic.

Kind Regards,
