I wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole because of all of the gunk floating around in Amniotic fluid that could be a potential interference Dr. Alter David Alter, MD DABCC Clinical/Chemical Pathologist Point of Care Testing-System Medical Director Clinical Professor of Pathology MSU-CHM Spectrum Health Regional Laboratory 35 Michigan Street Grand Rapids MI 49503 616 267 2786 Clinical Pathology - "Knowledge, Communication and Diplomacy; not necessarily in that order." Jimi Hendrix From: Clinical biochemistry discussion list [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of MARTIN, Nick (ROYAL FREE LONDON NHS FOUNDATION TRUST) Sent: Tuesday, November 15, 2016 9:11 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Amniotic Fluid TFTs Dear Mailbase We have been contacted by an obstetrician wanting to measure TSH and T4 (free or total) in amniotic fluid to guide the intrauterine treatment of a foetus with a goitre. The published literature suggests that the T4 and TSH in the amniotic fluid reflect foetal production and these measurements would be useful. Has anyone validated their TSH and/or T4 assays for use in amniotic fluid or know of anywhere that has? This request is a new one for us and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
