Greetings colleagues,
I am reviewing adult alkaline phosphatase reference ranges and looking at the question of whether one should have gender specific ranges or one adult range.  Leaving out the specific issues of pregnancy and ‘late’ growth in young adults my view of the data I’ve seen does not support a need for specific gender-related ranges. I note in particular that Pathology Harmony recommends a single range (30-130 U/L; IFCC candidate method p-NPP using AMP buffer). Kit inserts from kit manufacturers seem to vary in that some quote gender-specific ranges while others give an all adults range.  I wonder does anyone out there have specific evidence in favour of either option.
