Apologies for cross posting

Dear Colleague

I am very pleased to be able to announce the call for proposals for presentations and workshop sessions at the 10th Annual University of Glasgow Learning and Teaching Conference. The Conference will take place on Thursday 30th March 2017.

The title of this year's Conference is Enhancing the student journey. Colleagues from across the University support and guide students through their time at University, be it from helping new undergraduates transition into study to supporting them into employment or further study after graduation or from designing assessment to drive their learning to giving feedback to help them develop for their next piece of work. Colleagues support students as they develop their skills with technology as well as their links with communities and organisations outside the University.

We welcome proposals for presentations or interactive workshops which address the Conference theme and which focus on one or more of the Conference sub-themes. A further call for lightning talks will be sent out early in 2017.

This year the Conference has five sub-themes which are:-
  - Designing effective assessment for learning: assessment is more than simply testing students knowledge or skills. We would be interested in receiving abstracts which show how assessment has been designed to support and drive student learning and to motivate them to improve and develop

  - Giving useful feedback: if assessment is one side of the coin, useful feedback is the other, and is key for student development. The Conference team invites papers which discuss innovative methods of giving feedback to students, as well as papers which show ways in which students are being given feedback which actively seeks to further their development.

  - Developing and enhancing graduate skills: it is crucial that the University helps students develop the skills and abilities that they need to move out of university and into the world of work and further study. We welcome abstracts which showcase how students are supported and led to develop and demonstrate these skills.

  - Facilitating student engagement with the community: more and more, universities are being expected to engage with their local communities, and facilitating students to do so can be a powerful way for them to develop graduate skills and move into employment. We invite papers which explain the ways in which staff encourage and facilitate students to engagement with their communities; locally, professionally or within their disciplines.

  - Using technology to enhance the student learning experience: as students use of technology in their everyday lives continues to increase, how technology is used to support student learning becomes ever more important. The panel would be interested in proposals which outline innovative, emergent or impactful uses of technology to enhance the student learning experience in and across disciplines.

Call for abstracts:
The Conference will comprise a mixture of presentations (30 minutes 20 mins talk and 10 mins questions), interactive workshops (60 minutes) and lightning talks; I invite you to submit abstracts (max 300 words) for presentations and workshops using the online tool at: http://learn.gla.ac.uk/abstracts/
. As mentioned above, a call for abstracts for lightning talks will be sent out early in 2017.

We wish to have as much engagement with students and student learning as possible through the Conference so, for the first time, this year we will be asking all presentation and workshop proposals to identify student engagement - this may be in the form of having students as part of the presenting team, or students may have been involved in the development, running or evaluation of projects being submitted.

Selection will be based on the following criteria:
. The proposal aligns with the title and themes of the Conference
. The work is sufficiently accessible and interesting to a wide audience
. The proposal links to the University's Learning and Teaching Strategy [not for external contributions]
. The proposal demonstrates how students have been or will be engaged in preparing for or delivering the presentation or workshop, or in the development, running or evaluation of the project being presented
. The work can be clearly and effectively presented in the allocated time
. The authors of this work have thought about how they will engage participants
. The outcomes proposed in the presentation/workshop can be readily achieved.

Please submit your abstracts by Monday 7th November 2016. As with previous Conferences, successful abstracts will be published in the Proceedings booklet and online formats.

Registration:
Registration will open early in the New Year, when the full programme will be announced. Full details will also be published on the website:

Building on the success of previous Conferences, I look forward to your participation in what I am sure will prove to be once again, a lively and engaging event.

All best

Matthew
