Following on from the very popular training from earlier this year, the Scottish Council on Archives is pleased to present a further Leadership Development workshop.

Introduction and Overall Aim

The Workshop will enable archive sector leaders in Scotland to set up and run Action Learning Sets. This is a proven and powerful way of working with your peers to overcome workplace challenges, achieve objectives, develop new skills and learn about yourself and about others. We believe that Action Learning Sets are the most cost effective approach to learning and development. They are especially valuable in the current climate as they help to overcome many of today's common challenges, for example...

  * "We have so many things to deal with at the moment, with so little time to work on them!"
  * "These days, we have very little support within our organisation"
  * "We have no money for formal training courses anymore"
  * "It is really useful just to have time to think through and discuss problems and opportunities"

Goals of the Workshop

You will leave the workshop with the following:
1. Insight to the concept and process of Action Learning Sets
2. The skills and mind set to take part in - and facilitate - Action Learning sets
3. Specific actions to overcome challenges and/or achieve objectives,
4. Enhanced listening and questioning skills and commitment to further personal development
5. Commitment to a plan to set up and run Action Learning Sets with your peers in the future

Style of Workshop

It is very difficult to develop Action Learning Set skills and thinking simply by listening to, concepts - you have to do it! So, during the workshop you will take part in real Action Learning Sets (i.e. working on real issues that you have identified). At various stages we will pause and reflect on what is working well and what needs to be improved. In this way you will learn how to take part in and facilitate effective Action Learning Sets and leave with the insight and actions that you have discussed during the 'practice' sessions.

What do we need to prepare before the workshop?

Simply come along to the workshop with...

  1. Some challenges / goals that you want to work on and that you are happy to share with the group
  2. A willingness to work with and support your peers, and the awareness that you are not always right!

A commitment to personal development, self-awareness...and honesty!

Please note, that attendance at the earlier workshop is not required, this workshop is open to everyone.
