Dear friends and colleagues, Explosive changes in Design in the past 20 years call for a reexamination of Design Research’s accomplishments, aims, and possibilities. On behalf of the International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR), we would like to invite you to take part in this conversation. Re: Research is the theme of the biennial IASDR conference to be held for the first time in the United States at the University of Cincinnati - College of Design Architecture Art, and Planning (DAAP) October 31 through November 3, 2017. IASDR 2017 will review the distinctive approaches to design research in the USA and will display, discuss, and review the best research from around the world to jointly reimagine the array of possibilities for Design and Design Research in the 21st century. IASDR 2017 invites paper (3,000-5,000 words) or poster (250 words) submissions from three areas of design research: 1. Fundamental Research – within a University (disciplinary and interdisciplinary): Including history, theory, and criticism which addresses philosophical arguments that are basic to design 2. Collaborative Research – University + External Organizations: Development of new methods, innovation, and user experience 3. Research in Practice – Public, Non-profit, Corporations, and Consultants: Strategies and case studies that apply to the practice of design in government, industry, and consulting, including service design, interaction, products, product systems, environments, and architecture.
